Abstract:

There is no justification for the assertion that human races are merely social constructs. The three main elements argued by social constructionist that illustrate race creation, (politics, economics, and culture) are invalid because it results in the evolution of documentation and discourse on the significance and relevance of being a member of a particular race. It is already assumed that there are scientific explanations for the race, therefore societies classification of individuals based on race in politics, economics, and culture, does not constitute construction. When the social influences of politics, economics, and culture become insufficient for maintaining a desired status quo, or inconvenient to politicians and judges, civilization always defaults to the science of observable differences to determine race. _x000d_Importantly, as a result of race’s influence on politics, economics, and culture, there are serious modern implications to the proper application and dialogue of race. Application of an accurate definition of race, in combination with a realization of their shared history and experiences, will allow African Americans to unite and mobilize in order to combat inequality, racism, and disenfranchisement. |
