Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to examine contributions of Critical Security Studies to the study of security in the post- 9/ 11 era. This paper aims at articulating these contributions through evaluating them in the context of international relations theory- security conceptionalization relationship._x000d__x000d_The paper tries to evaluate how post- 9/ 11 era resulted in “national security states” and crippled basics rights in the name of “more security.” The paper will pay particular attention to the problems experienced by Muslim minorities in the developed democracies of the world, i.e. the U.S. and the UK as well as to the similar problems experienced in the Middle Eastern Muslim majority states as a result of the post- 9/ 11 security paranoia. The paper argues that the more critical security studies approach can be promoted the more prospects for an equal co-existence will be raised. The paper argues first, that the Critical Security Studies approach shall play a crucial role in critically evaluating the implications of the post- 9/ 11 national security paranoia. Second, it draws attention to the similarity of policies followed in Western democracies and Middle Eastern authoritarian regimes in the post- 9/11 era.
