Abstract: We investigated relationships with students’ academic self-efficacy and performance on a high-stakes mathematics test for a baseline sample of 2,508 middle school students. Self-efficacy scores did not significantly interact with gender, but did decrease significantly (as do passing rates on the high stakes TAKS mathematics test) as grade level increased – a sobering trend, with implications for pedagogical/curricular approaches/interventions.
