Abstract: Obesity (BMI) continues to be a increasing health problem in African-American women. The LIFE Project is a 10-week intervention designed to address the problem in these women. Two different interventions (spiritually based and non-spiritually based) are tested in the LIFE project. Both interventions utilized a pre-test, post-test design. The following measures are collected: weight, BMI, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, communication with physician, physical activity, and spirituality. The results demonstrate that spiritual interventions result in significant reductions in weight.
