1. Rosenberg, Shawn. "The Analysis of Political Deliberation: Issues in the Qualitative Analysis of Political Discourse" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Political Science Association, Marriott Wardman Park, Omni Shoreham, Washington Hilton, Washington, DC, Sep 01, 2005 <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p41975_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Review Method: Peer Reviewed
Abstract: The paper presents a structural pragmatic approach to the analysis of political discourse. After a brief comment on more traditional political science view of discourse, a typology of four kinds of discourse is presented. Each type is defined in terms of its orienting aims, its formal structural qualities, the dynamics whereby it unfolds and the kind of intersubjective meaning it constructs. Following the presentation of the typology, there is a brief discussion of some of the methodological issues raised by this approach to the study of political discourse.

2. Cottam, Martha. and Preston, Thomas. "Image Theory and Leader Trait Analysis (LTA): An Integrated Analysis of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the International Society of Political Psychology, Classical Chinese Garden, Portland, Oregon USA, Jul 04, 2007 <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p204537_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Abstract: This paper builds upon earlier work that developed a theoretical foundation for the integration two widely-used approaches in political psychology for analyzing world leaders-at-a-distance: image theory and leadership trait analysis. The paper reviews the two approaches and the areas where there is ‘mutual fit’ between the approaches (where the individual findings usefully complement or augment the explanatory power provided by the other) and those where these approaches provide more unique perspectives. By integrating these two approaches into a common, overall analytical framework, we hope to greatly increase our ability to accurately assess leader perceptions, decision making, and foreign policy behavior at-a-distance. The second part of this paper offers an initial effort to do this by comparing single instances of decision making and information processing in the foreign policies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

3. Valverde, Gilbert. "Modeling and analysis to address the primary school quality crisis in the Dominican Republic: A case of policy analysis" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the 53rd Annual Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society, Francis Marion Hotel, Charleston, South Carolina, <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p302734_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe and illustrate the EERC efforts to develop tools that further the Consortium’s efforts to formulate and communicate useful guidance regarding how to respond to problems in the educational institutions and systems of primary education in the Dominican Republic. The focus is on the production and use of analysis to understand and/or inform educational decisions and policies. The emphasis is on applied analysis – substantive analysis concerned with the explicit examination of the links between educational knowledge and educational action. It aims share how the Consortium models and conceptualizes the fundamental educational problems uncovered in Dominican primary schools, frames problems for analysis, develops tentative (and alternative) recommendations for action, and attempts to forecast the potential consequences of implementing such recommendations.

4. Koenig, Thomas. "Reframing Frame Analysis: Systematizing the empirical identification of frames using qualitative data analysis software" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association, Hilton San Francisco & Renaissance Parc 55 Hotel, San Francisco, CA,, Aug 14, 2004 Online <.PDF>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p110319_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Review Method: Peer Reviewed
Abstract: Even though frame analysis has become a popular analytical framework in media studies and social movement research, the methodological underpinnings of the empirical identification of frames lack systematization and have consequently remained underdeveloped. This paper consolidates recent advances in the empirical measurement of frames and explores, in how far computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) can enhance these methodologies. Because framing has become a fairly widely used but ill-defined concept, the paper will start with a delineation of framing theory as it is understood for present purposes. Next, a methodology to empirically measure frames will be developed. The proposed methodology attempts in a first step to draw on existing knowledge on metanarratives to avoid a purely inductive identification of frames. In a second step, the analyst identifies through a hermeneutic analysis of data a set of keywords and key phrases that indicate frames in his data. These indicators are then used in a third step to semi-automatically identify frames in the data. Five CAQDAS -- ATLAS.ti, Kwalitan, MAXqda, NVivo, and Qualrus -- are examined with respect to their usability in this type of framing research. Finally, a short overview, on how to validate frame models with cluster analysis, factor analysis, and latent class/structure analysis will be made.

5. Daniel, Aguado Ornelas. "Poster 23. Until Death Do Us Part: Analysis of the Breakup of First Unions Before Thirty in Three Cohorts in Mexico Using a History Events Analysis" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association, Montreal Convention Center, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Aug 11, 2006 Online <PDF>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p103129_index.html>

Abstract: As a social phenomenon, the disintegration of couples is not easy to be measured. Usually in vital statistics breakups are limited to divorces and only register some kind of information. In this way, we can only know the amount of separations in a certain period of time but we can not easily reconstruct the history of each generation and relate it to other demographic events in the live of the persons. In this paper we analyze the data of the Encuesta Demográfica Retrospectiva in Mexico (EDER) that allows us to analyze all kind of breakups in marital and consensual unions and relate it to other demographic and socioeconomic phenomena. Using this survey we compare the trends of separation in males and females from three generations in Mexico, and through a model of events history analysis we try to identify the main socioeconomic factors that influence the breakup during first unions.
