Abstract: Research on sex segregation in voluntary associations often focuses on the negative affects of this segregation, but little is understood about how this segregation affects the commitment of members to the organization. Utilizing a multilevel model in which women are nested within business networks, I address how sex composition affects commitment. Furthermore, whereas the benefits of business network involvement are well document, this research often assumes all that is necessary to achieve these benefits is membership in the organization. Utilizing OLS path analysis, I estimate how commitment influences perceived network membership benefits through level of involvement in the network. The multilevel model fails to find support for the idea that sex segregation effects commitment. The path analysis does find support for benefits occurring as a result of commitment and involvement in the network.
