A total of 672 monolingual Japanese undergraduates participated in a questionnaire survey assessing their expectations on loanwords. Three factors explaining the psychological benefit that one gets from using loanwords were revealed, and difference in the degree of benefit perception was also examined. Implications for future studies and were also discussed. |
