1. Burns, Kimberly. "Medicare Part D and Pharmacy Students: Preparing Future Pharmacists for Medicare Part D Challenges." Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Jul 14, 2007 <Not Available>. 2009-12-05 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p187859_index.html>
Publication Type: Abstract
Abstract: Objectives: The initial and continuing implementation of the Medicare Part D outpatient prescription drug benefit has greatly impacted the practice of pharmacy. In addition to turning to pharmacists to dispense prescription drugs covered by Part D plans, millions of Medicare beneficiaries also call upon pharmacists for information and guidance in order to make informed decisions in plan selection. A Medicare Part D elective course was offered to help determine appropriate teaching methods to prepare students for these ongoing challenges.
Methods: Three methods were combined to educate and expose pharmacy students to Medicare Part D. These included: didactic lecturing and guest speakers from the local, state and national level; community outreach events coinciding with Part D open enrollment; and group research projects incorporating a Part D topic. At the completion of the course, students were surveyed on their understanding of Medicare Part D and their perceived value of the community outreach events and research projects.
Results: Based on student assessment, the various methods used were effective for the students understanding and application of Medicare Part D concepts. Students were able to learn the complexities of Medicare Part D; apply their understanding of Medicare Part D to assist the community; and successfully complete and present a research project involving a Medicare Part D topic.
Implications: This elective course model will be used to educate and prepare future pharmacy students regarding Medicare Part D, and to continue providing valuable service to the community and local Medicare beneficiaries.

3. Kim, Young-Mi. and Levanon, Asaf. "Which Part of the Story? Occupational Sex Segregation and Part-Time Work" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association, Hilton San Francisco & Renaissance Parc 55 Hotel, San Francisco, CA,, Aug 14, 2004 Online <.PDF>. 2009-12-05 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p110308_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Review Method: Peer Reviewed
Abstract: This paper joins an emerging body of literature on the effects of working-time arrangements and choices on gendered occupational outcomes, in particular on patterns of occupational sex segregation. In contrast to previous explorations of the relationship between part-time work and occupational sex segregation, we adopt a multidimensional approach to the study of sex segregation. We argue that specifying three distinctive two-way interactions of sex-by-occupation, sex-by-employment status, and occupation-by-employment status should be the steppingstone for the analysis of the relationship between sex, occupation, and employment status. Utilizing the 2000 U.S. Census 1-percent public use microdata sample files, we find that through the joint influence of working-time sex segregation and deindustrialization, employment status mediates some of the relationship between sex and occupation. In contrast to earlier studies we employ a margin-free segregation index, and find a lower degree of segregation in the part-time workforce than in the full-time workforce. We explain this finding in terms of the demographic characteristics of part-time workers. The implications of these findings for future analysis of occupational segregation and part-time work are discussed.

4. Gossett, Loril. and Goldstein, Rachel. "Transitioning from Full- to Part-Time: Examining the Control and Identity Implications of Part-Time Employment" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the International Communication Association, TBA, San Francisco, CA, May 23, 2007 Online <PDF>. 2009-12-05 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p173038_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Abstract: This study explores the ways that former full-time employees talk about and make sense of their transition to part-time work. The data for this study was drawn from 20 in-depth interviews with individuals who have experienced this transition within the same job or industry. The key findings in this study highlight the ways in which workers negotiate this identity transition. Additionally, this study identifies a variety of structural and discursive barriers that limit the sustainability of part-time work arrangements for managerial and professional employees. The practical and theoretical implications of these findings are discussed.

5. Sellers, James. "On Euler’s Partition Theorem Relating Odd-Part Partitions and Distinct-Part Partitions" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the Mathematical Association of America, The Fairmont Hotel, San Jose, CA, Aug 03, 2007 <Not Available>. 2009-12-05 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p204855_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Abstract: Euler's classic partition identity, which states that the number of partitions of the
positive integer $n$ into odd parts equals the number of partitions of $n$ into distinct
parts, has been generalized and extended by many. In this talk, we
will briefly consider the historical background behind Euler's identity and then discuss
two results proven in the last few years which generalize this identity. Some of these
results were developed in collaboration with Gary Mullen and Drew Sills.
