Abstract: Nearly all faculty members teaching in the social sciences have struggled with seemingly minor disruptions that can seriously disrupt our ability to teach. Although we like to think that cell phone use, rudeness in class, student showing up late (and the like) can be relegated to high school, these issues far to often affect the college classroom too. It can therefore be extremely useful to share successful (and unsuccessful) strategies to handle such "minor," but seriously problematic, issues.
