1. Williams, Joseph. "The "Psychological Seam"" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the Midwest Political Science Association 67th Annual National Conference, The Palmer House Hilton, Chicago, IL, Apr 02, 2009 Online <APPLICATION/PDF>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p364579_index.html>

Abstract: In this political-psychology paper, I argue that during “Nation-Building,” or “Peace-Keeping” operations, an exploitable “psychological seam” is created as one military unit is replaced by another military unit (the effect is most pronounced between the first and second units). In nation-building or peace-keeping operations, it is widely accepted that the nexus of these types of operations is the local population, however, despite this wide acknowledgement, little research or examination of this "seam creating" phenomenon has been done. I will use the first transition in Iraq (April 2004) as my case study.
