2. Ugarcovici, Ilie. "Assigning a "toy version" of the Google page-rank matrix problem as a final project" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the Mathematical Association of America, The Fairmont Hotel, San Jose, CA, Aug 03, 2007 <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p206415_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Abstract: Based on a project description found in the book "Numerical Analysis" by T. Sauer and assigned to my numerical analysis class, I will present some of the conceptual and computational challenges, pitfalls and eventual satisfactions my students had while studying a toy version of the Google matrix. The 15x15 stochastic matrix is larger than those commonly found in textbooks, but definitely smaller than the real-world one. I will try to make the point that assigning problems of increased computational size might improve students' abilities in working with real-world problems and make them realize the importance of an efficient approach.

3. Werley, Eric. "Finite Versions of Rogers-Ramanujan-Slater Type Identities" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the The Mathematical Association of America MathFest, TBA, Madison, Wisconsin, Jul 28, 2008 <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p275525_index.html>
Publication Type: Student Paper
Abstract: A "Rogers-Ramanujan-Slater" type identity is an identity containing a variable q which equates an infinite product with an infinite series. A finite generalization of such an identity consists of two sequences of polynomials, such that corresponding terms in each sequence are equal and one sequence tends to the infinite sum and the other sequence tends to the infinite product. Some mathematicians such as Andrew Sills have found finite generalizations of the 130 identities in two papers by Lucy Slater. We will be discussing finding finite generalizations different from those of Sills. We will also show how to recover the infinite versions from these finite generalizations.

"New Version of the Old Story: Is there any Chance of Success for the NPT's future in the 2010?" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the Midwest Political Science Association 67th Annual National Conference, The Palmer House Hilton, Chicago, IL, Apr 02, 2009 Online <PDF>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p363190_index.html>

Abstract: The NPT requires that review conferences be held every five years. The Treaty is regarded as the cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. It was designed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to further the goal of nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament, and to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Noting the failures of the 2005 NPT Review conference can the international community expect from the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to reach into conclusion; in which they evaluate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of 2010 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and hence bring forth a new fresh looking to the treaty itself- that is already loosing ground. So, in this presentation whether; the rhetoric of the different parties to the NPT treaty in the wake of 2010 (NPT) Review Conference has any chance of coinciding/ or matching with the realities on the ground-related to disarmament, non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in 2010 will tried to be evaluated.

"Readability and Comprehension: Comparison of the Two Versions of the Miranda Rights Assessment Instruments" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the American Psychology - Law Society, TBA, San Antonio, TX, Mar 04, 2009 <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p303253_index.html>
Publication Type: Poster
Review Method: Peer Reviewed
Abstract: This paper compares juvenile offenders’ scores on the Instruments for Assessing Understanding and Appreciation of Miranda Rights and the Miranda Rights Comprehension Instruments-II (MRCI-II). Youth scored similarly on the two versions of one of the component measures but differed significantly on another component measure and on the individual items corresponding to the first and second Miranda warnings. The reading level and complexity of the rights used in each instrument will be presented. Results suggest that the information included within the warning and the readability may be important to consider when evaluating the difficulty of various wordings of the Miranda warnings.
