1. Harness, Lindsey. "Exploring the Social Identity of Homeless Youth: An Uncommon Blend of Social Identity and Co-Cultural Theory" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the NCA 94th Annual Convention, TBA, San Diego, CA, <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p259459_index.html>
Publication Type: Invited Paper
Abstract: This project focuses on understanding the social identity of homeless youth and the influence that group categorization has on the communication strategies. Specifically, how does a marginalized group’s identity influence its communication with dominant society? Finding convergences between two unseeingly divergent theories, social identity and co-cultural theory, helps create understanding about how their identity is constructed as well as the ways in which the youth’s communication renders their identity visible or perpetuates its invisibility.
