| 1. Dorman, Andrew. "The Redifinition of the the Role of Military Power in Europe: Old, New or Just Plain Different?" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the International Studies Association, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu, Hawaii, Mar 05, 2005 <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p70863_index.html>Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript Review Method: Peer Reviewed Abstract: Domanld Rumsfeld referred to Old and New Europe prior to the Iraq War. In doing so he highlighted some of the strands of different thinking on the role of the military within and across Europe. US defence transformation, static defence budgets and a redefining of what Europe is has brought about a continuing debate and led to considerable tensions within Europe and in its relations with other states, most notably the United states. This paper will review the current state of military transformation within Europe and assess the implications this has for ESDP, the future of NATO and the transatlantic partnership. |
