1. Kelly, Shawna. "Virtually Memorializing: A Rhetorical Criticism of the 9/11 Memorial in Second Life" Paper presented at the annual meeting of the NCA 94th Annual Convention, TBA, San Diego, CA, <Not Available>. 2009-11-28 <http://www.allacademic.com/meta/p271061_index.html>
Publication Type: Conference Paper/Unpublished Manuscript
Abstract: This paper looks at the rhetorical implications of a virtual 9/11 memorial built in Second Life. It highlights the artifact’s potential for individual agency, for accessibility and for shared experiences, while acknowledging the limitations of the medium. The rhetorical effectiveness of a memorial in a virtual world is contrasted with that of a physical memorial and implications for future memorializing are discussed.
